McCain is a gambler. No, he may not be found eating the cookies or attending regular Gamblers Anonymous meetings - and certainly he hasn't gambled away wife Cindy's fortune - but he's gambling that Palin creates enough distraction that they forget to ask him the tough questions.

Questions about his campaign, his Keating Five membership, his illogical claim to a morality of which he has no credentials and his continuous bout with critical thinking.

The term hero gets thrown around - and to their credit the Obama campaign lays off - but McCain's political career is not heroic . Certainly he's a victim of war, certainly he was imprisoned in awful circumstances - and deserves America's gratitude. Well he's gotten it. He's been receiving 100% disability from the US Military for many years now. He's been on the US payroll all his life. He has never had to worry about making a living, health care. Any heroism was nullified by his complicity in ripping off hard working Americans with more premeditation than an innocent bystander and less dignity than a pick-pocket.

McCain - the Republican candidate of last resort. Maverick Nah ! Desperado !!

I am no fan of McCain and still an undecided voter, but Obama lies as well. Abortions are actually down during the Bush administration, but he says that more are happening. I know that liberals (and conservatives) suffer from selective outrage, but come on. Get over the "your guy is a bigger liar than my guy" stuff. 99% of all politicians are liars, and 99% of all political bloggers ignore the lies of the one they like while being outraged over those of the other guy.

And get over the media bias crud while you're at it...I suppose the NYT is in McCain's pocket.

We need public financing of campaigns, even if it takes a constitutional amendment.

I suspect Obama will stay about the fray on this one Kurt, but MoveOn.org and others certainly will not. As things get hotter in the next couple of months, I suspect we'll be hearing a lot about these things you've raised. Good job and good post!
